Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Laluobu of Niushibu area 72 km to the southeast of the Deqin County Town, Yunnan Province. It was named by the Yunnan Regional Geological Reconnaissance Party in 1986, and was cited officially by the Yunnan Provincial Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources (1990).


Lithology and Thickness

Basalt and Claystone. Grey-green basalt with pillow structure and yellow-green sandy slate, intercalated with light-grey crystalline limestone, with its basal part consisting of yellow-green and grey-green altered basalts. Thickness is 3626.9 m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the light-grey medium- and thick-bedded dolomitic micritic and crystal-powder limestones at the top of the underlying Kadabeng Fm

Upper contact

Not given. Top is dotted in Column 59.

Regional extent

Distributed in the area from Deqin to Weixi of Yunnan Province, with a thickness of 1380-3627 m.

Fossils

The limestone yields Fusulinida as represented by Metadoliolina sp., Neoschwagerina sp., Verbeekina cf. verbeeki, Parafusulina sp., etc., whose stratigraphic horizon is corresponding to the Maokou Fm.
